Ellen: Hey everybody. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com, and we're taking a quick look at the GSI Outdoors Dutch Oven Lid Lifter. This makes it easy to grab onto the lid of your Dutch oven, especially if you've been using it for baking, and you've maybe got some coals over the top and that's become pretty hot. So you definitely don't want to have to worry about getting your hand in there, even if you do have a mitt or anything else. It's just safer to use a lid lifter like this guy here. So we've got the little hook to grab onto the lid, and then the two feet on either side to kind of stabilize it so it's not going to swing around on us. And we can move that off to the side, stir whatever we have going on in our Dutch oven, or get out our baked bread or whatever we have, or check on it and do what we need to do.
Same thing to put it back, just helps us to do that safely. Saves us from burning our hands or our knuckles, and keeps everything in place whenever you need it to be.So we'll take a little closer look at the lid lifter itself. It's just going to be this kind of bent piece of metal. It's nice and lightweight, easy to grab onto with that nice wide hooked end. And then again, either side is stabilized by the two little tines there, so it just helps to keep your hand at a safe distance so you don't have to worry about singeing yourself or burning anything.
And it's relatively compact, so it should be pretty easy to store away. This is the 14" Dutch oven from GSI, and it looks like this actually fits right inside there. It's . might not fit on all of them. Let me give you a quick measurement here just to see how long it actually is. And it looks like it's about 13-1/8" long if we go to the very edge of it.
Widest portion is going to be those two little tines on either side, and that's about 13 and . or excuse me, 3-1/2". And then top to bottom, about 2-1/2, I'd say.So, should store up pretty easily. Again, if you have some larger cookware, if you just want to store it down in a bag or something like that, really not too hard to find a spot for it. But that's pretty much all there is to it.
Again, helps to just lift and lower that lid in place, pretty easy to use, and it keeps you a good distance away from any kind of hotspots on your Dutch oven. So I hope that this has been helpful in deciding if this is going to be the right tool for you. We do have GSI's cookware available here at etrailer.com, along with a lot of other accessories for your camping or outdoor adventures, so check them out. Thanks for watching.
